The skills developed by studying this qualification will develop an understanding of the role of the bookkeeper, including the need to produce timely and accurate work and follow ethical principles. Students will learn how to identify assets, liabilities, income, expenses, capital profit and loss, and the differences between trading for cash or trading on credit. The skills developed will give students a solid base from which to seek employment with greater confidence or enable them to progress to the next level of learning. Students will also learn the role that software can have in bookkeeping.

It is also suitable for those who are already employed in bookkeeping roles, those wishing to develop their skills and small business owners who want to do their own books.

This is a Level 1 introductory qualification in AAT.

You will learn basic accounting techniques and principles, an understanding of the business environment and how to prepare for the world of work.

It will give students an understanding of:

- How different organisations operate
- How to contribute effectively in the workplace
- How businesses process sales and purchases, and the documents and procedures associated with this.

Introduction to Bookkeeping

This is an introductory course for anyone interested in taking a bookkeeping course or working in the sector.

The course runs on a Wednesday morning to fit around the school run.

You will need to be over 19 to take part and in receipt of a low-wage or unemployed and receiving Universal Credit or similar.

The successful completion of the course will allow entry onto an AAT Level 1 course.

There is no entry requirements although a reasonable level of English & Maths is needed.

This advanced practical art course in Drawing & Painting is for learners who have had some previous experience in making art and want to further their individual, creative, imaginative, analytical thinking and learning more advanced technical skills in using acrylics, watercolours, pencil, pastel, and ink etc. We shall examine and analyse other artist’s works and learners will be encouraged in finding their own practical artistic voice through themes such as still life, landscape, portraiture etc. At the end of each session learners will examine theirs and other’s work learning to use a more specialist art vocabulary.

Languages - An Introduction to British Sign Language Part 2 (follow-on)

This course will take place in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

This British Sign Language course follows-on from the BSL Introduction part 1 course which ran during January and February. Students who did not follow this course should already be able to finger-spell the BSL alphabet, know basic numbers and be able to sign a very basic meet and greet conversation - this course is not suitable for complete beginners.

During this course you will begin to build your vocabulary and learn to produce and receive more detailed phrases in BSL.

Languages - An Introduction to Spanish

This course will be delivered in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

This Introductory course is suitable for learners who have never learned the language before or who have a very limited knowledge. It will cover first contacts, and basic "getting to know you" phrases. You will also gain an insight into the delights of Spanish food and culture. Completion of this course will prepare you to move forward to an accredited Spanish beginners course next academic year.

French: French Continuing Beginners Entry level - Part 2

Course CTL101-24 will be delivered in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

Course DEL159-24 will be delivered online via Zoom. Please make sure you enrol on the correct course.

This course assumes you have studied French for about 3 or 4 months and can cope in first contact situations and communicate very simply in the language.

During this course, you will start to develop your reading & writing skills and will learn to read and understand basic texts in French and write simple phrases and short sentences.

You will work towards the SEG Awards Level 3 Award in Reading and Writing in French (SEG Awards is the Awarding Body). This involves compiling a small portfolio of assessments done in class which will then be internally and externally verified. All fees include the cost of this accreditation.

Languages - French Level 1 Improvers - term 3

This course will take place in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

This course assumes you have studied French for about 12-18 months. You should already be able to get by in the language and cope with social situations and travel information.

This term, you will continue to learn how to converse, using both the past tense and future tenses and time will be spent practicing the use of both tenses to develop your confidence and fluency when speaking.

This course will take place online via ZOOM.

This course follows on from the Lower Intermediate Level 1 Reading & Writing course during the autumn & spring terms. If you did not follow this course, you should have at least 2-3 years’ of study and the ability to get by in the language, holding short, simple conversations, employing the present and simple past tenses.

During this course you will consolidate your knowledge of all grammar learned previously and will work towards increasing your ability to talk with more confidence about a variety of topics, employing the present, past and future tenses.

These courses will take place in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

To join either of these Advanced classes, you should have studied French for around 5 years and have probably obtained a good grade at GCSE. You should be able to cope reasonably well in discussions with a native speaker, employing a range of tenses.
You will continue to learn how to converse, understand, and write in French with more confidence. You will further improve your skills in presenting an argument using topical materials from French speaking countries and will consolidate your knowledge of French grammar.

Please note – This course will be delivered online via Zoom

This course follows on from the previous German Level 2 part 2 (Lower Advanced Reading & Writing) course in terms 1 and 2 (autumn & spring terms) and assumes you have studied German for about 4 years. You are probably quite confident using different tenses but need more practise to gain fluency. You should already be able to hold a short conversation with reasonable confidence with a native speaker.

During this course you will learn to speak with increased fluency and accuracy using different tenses

This course assumes you have studied Greek for around 6 years. You must already be able to hold a conversation with a native speaker with reasonable confidence and fluency, employing a range of different tenses.

Italian Beginners Entry Level part 2

Please Read - this information is important.

Course DEL115-24 will be delivered online via Zoom. For this course, please be aware that you will need to come into the centre at Croydon Clocktower for one session nearing the end of the course so that you can complete the speaking and listening assessments which need to recorded in person. The Tutor will let you know in advance, the date and the time for these assessments.

Course CTL|113-24 will be delivered in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

This course assumes you have studied Italian for about 3 or 4 months and can cope in first contact situations and communicate very simply in the language.

During this course, you will continue to develop your reading & writing and speaking & Listening skills and will learn to read and understand basic texts in Italian and write simple phrases and short sentences.

Italian Level 1 - Term 3

These courses will take place in the classroom at CALAT Croydon Clocktower.

Both courses follow on from the previous Level 1 accredited courses in Italian with CALAT and assumes you can get by in Italian with a degree of confidence in various social situations, employing the present and simple past tenses.

During this course you will practise using the various past tenses and simple future tense to increase your confidence and fluency

To join this Italian Level 3 Upper Advanced class you should have studied Italian for at least 5/6 years or have lived in Italy and immersed yourself in Italian life and culture.

Perhaps you have already obtained a good grade at GCSE?.

The course will give you the opportunity to improve your fluency and to use and understand more complex language. You will increase your mastery of the various tenses to express yourself more confidently both in written work and by taking part in discussions on various topics. You will enhance your reading skills and knowledge of Italian culture and will also explore literature and film.

Spanish Beginners Entry Level - Part 1

This course will take place in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

This complete beginners course is suitable for learners who have never learned the language before or who have a very limited knowledge. It will cover first contacts, basic "getting to know you" phrases and ordering drinks and snacks in a café. You will work towards the SEG Awards (Skills and Education Group is the Awarding Body) ABC Entry 3 Award in Spanish This involves compiling a small portfolio of assessments done in class which will then be internally and externally verified. All fees include the cost of this accreditation.

Spanish Beginners Entry Level - Part 2

Please Read - this information is important.

Courses DEL130-24 and DEL136-24 will be delivered online via Zoom. For these courses, please be aware that you will need to come into the centre at Croydon Clocktower for one session nearing the end of the course so that you can complete the speaking and listening assessments which need to recorded in person. The Tutor will let you know in advance, the date and the time for these assessments.

ALSO - Course DEL130-24 will start on Tuesday 22 April, BUT all classes will then continue on a Monday morning. This first class on Tuesday is just to allow us to fit in 11 weeks of teaching, bearing in mind the late Easter in April and the two bank holiday Mondays in May.

Course CTL134-24 will be delivered in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

These courses assume you have studied Spanish for about 6 months and can cope in first contact situations and communicate very simply in the language. You will learn how to describe yourself and others in greater detail, referring to your daily routine and leisure activities. You will learn to talk about where you live and where you are from and describe your home. These courses are not suitable for complete beginners.

Languages - Spanish Level 1 Improvers - term 3

These courses will be delivered in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

This course assumes you have studied Spanish for about 12-18 months. You should already be able to get by in the language and cope with social situations and travel information.

This term, you will continue to learn how to converse, using both the past tense and future tenses and time will be spent practicing the use of both tenses to develop your confidence and fluency when speaking.

This course will take place online via ZOOM

This course follows on from the Lower Intermediate Level 1 Reading & Writing course during the autumn & spring terms. If you did not follow this course, you should have at least 2-3 years’ of study and the ability to get by in the language, holding short, simple conversations, employing the present and simple past tenses.

During this course you will consolidate your knowledge of all grammar learned previously and will work towards increasing your ability to talk with more confidence about a variety of topics, employing the present, past and future tenses.

Spanish Level 2 - term 3

This course will take place in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

This course follows on from the Level 2 Part 1 Speaking & Listening course in the autumn and spring terms. To join this Intermediate level class, you should have studied Spanish for around 3/4 years and you should be able to cope reasonably well in conversations with a native speaker, employing the present, past and future tenses and the conditional tense to a limited extent.

During this course, you will continue to increase your ability to converse, understand, and write in Spanish with more confidence and will consolidate your knowledge of Spanish grammar.

This course will be delivered in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

This course follows on from the Level 2 Part 2 Reading & Writing course in the autumn and spring terms. To join this Intermediate Upper Level class you should have studied Spanish for 4 or 5 years and you may have already obtained a GCSE pass. (This is not a requirement for this course though)

You should already be able to cope reasonably well in discussions with a native speaker.

You will continue to increase your ability to converse, understand, and write in Spanish with more confidence. You will further improve your skills in presenting an argument using topical materials from Spanish speaking countries and will consolidate your knowledge of Spanish grammar.

Ascentis Level 3 Award in Education & Training

This course will be blended - delivered online and in the classroom.

PLEASE NOTE - This is NOT a Teaching Assistant course and is NOT suitable for you if you wish to support younger children in the classroom. This course is aimed only at those wishing to teach Adults in the Adult Education Sector.
The Ascentis Level 3 Award in Education is an introduction to teaching and it is appropriate for teachers, tutors and trainers who may be working within an FE college, Community Learning and Skills Provider or Independent Learning Provider i.e with learners post 14 years of age. The course is also aimed at learners who wish to gain a taste of teaching in the Adult Education sector before deciding to pursue a career in teaching. (Ascentis is the Awarding Body)

Before you are able to enrol on this course, you will need to book and attend an assessment/formation session. You will need to create an online account to book your place on the assessment. Click on the 'Enrol' button to book your session for this course and follow the booking/registration instructions.

Additional assessment sessions for this course will be held at CALAT Croydon Clocktower centre on:
Thursday 13th February 2025 between 5:00 and 7:00pm

Each session will last approximately 1-2 hours. The sessions are broken down into half-hour slots so you will need to select an appointment slot and arrive promptly for the start of the session.

Please bring along proof of any benefits you may be entitled to, as well as your Passport/ ID card or Home Office letter if applicable. Accredited courses may be free to those in receipt of certain benefits and who meet the eligibility criteria for UK residency.
