What will I learn??
By the end of the course learners should be able to:
Perform Data Analysis
- Understand what data analysis is and its uses
- Perform the steps and tasks of data analysis with real-world data:
- Understand data requirements, sources, descriptions, types and quality
- Transform data to make it easier to analyse
- Select and create visuals
- Communicate data insights:
- Understand the audience and define key messages
- Select appropriate visuals
- Structure and deliver a presentation
Use Microsoft Excel for data analysis
- Navigate and understand real-world data sets
- Use standard Excel charts to visualise data effectively
- Create and work with PivotTables and Pivot Charts
- Use Excel tables and formulas
- Perform data analysis with common Excel formulas (SUM, COUNTA, MIN, MAX, AVERAGE, IF, OR,
SUMIF, COUNTIF, VLOOKUP, INDEX, CONCAT)
- Transform and Load data into Excel using the Power Query Editor
Use Microsoft Power BI for data analysis
- Know what Power BI is used for and how it compares to Excel
- Create reports and visuals – cards, charts and maps
- Transform and Load data from different types of sources into Power BI using the Power Query Editor
- Structure data and relationships as Star Schema to make reports easier to develop
- Perform analysis with Data Analytics Expressions (DAX) by preparing measures and calculated
columns
Topics
Learners will acquire essential data analysis skills. Learners will:
• Perform end-to-end data analysis steps and tasks with real world data
• Use Microsoft Excel PivotTables, Pivot Charts, tables, functions and Power Query Editor for data
analysis, visualisation and transformation
• Use Microsoft Power BI to transform different data sources into appropriate data models, and to create
effective measures and visuals
• Communicate data insights through understanding the audience, defining key messages, selection of
appropriate visuals; and then structure and deliver presentations.

What Examinations will I be able to take?
There are no formal qualifications gained at the end of the course, but your learner journey is assessed through a personal learning plan that logs your journey from start to finish.
This is completed by the learner and tutor.
Assessment
Continuous informal tasks throughout the course (a completed personal learning plan tracking your learning, examples or tasks completed).

Courses run for 5 hours over 9 weeks and start in September, January and April. To enrol on the course you must attend an information session that is held at a CALAT centre.
