Get more out of Sewing through this course designed to increase your knowledge and appreciation of dressmaking.
This course is for you if you are new to sewing and using a sewing machine.
In this beginners’ course, you will learn the basic sewing techniques needed to use a machine. With the support of your tutor, you will learn how to a simple garment.
What Will I learn? Subject Contents/Topics to be covered
By the end of the course, depending on your level of experience you should be able to:
Identify the main features and capabilities of a domestic sewing machine.
A variety of different fabric manipulation methods.
Identify different seam methods.
Acknowledge and apply a variety of seam finishes.
Use your samples and knowledge for further learning or home projects.
Teaching/Learning Methods
This course will be tutor led with step-by-step demonstration.
Learners will also be shown samples and given informative handouts.
Your tutor will direct/instruct you on what essentials items to bring for your project.
Assessment Pattern
Your progress and achievement will be recognised throughout the duration of the course.
You will learn to evaluate your understanding and recognise areas for improvement with help from your tutor.
Please be prepared to receive constructive feedback from your tutor, as you learn to gain the skills.
Once confident, you should be able to transfer the skills gained to other projects.
At the end of the course, you and your tutor will discuss and record what you have achieved and what you still need to learn.
