Languages - Portuguese Stage 6

Portuguese Stage 6

Level:

Portuguese Stage 6 - approximately year 3 of study

Prior Knowledge:

You should have at least 2 years of study and the ability to get by in the language and cope with different social situations.

Learners should already be able to communicate simply in Portuguese using basic tenses (simple past and present) You should be able to meet and greet another Portuguese speaker, giving and asking for a few personal details and order food and drink in a Café/Restaurant. You should also be able to read, write and understand basic Portuguese.

The emphasis throughout our courses is on effective communication and on building a firm foundation in the four key skills of SPEAKING, LISTENING, READING & WRITING.
During the course, you will learn to:

To talk about my interest in music and the cinema
To make suggestions and give my opinions
Speak with more confidence and fluency



Subjects/Topics to be covered over this and the next term:

You will develop your language skills to be able to use a limited range of simple words and sentences to form statements and questions in familiar situations, giving a short talk on a familiar topic using different time frames.

Grammar:
• Consolidation of use of Simple Past tense
• to practise the Imperfect tense
• to practise the future tense
• Use the Imperative
• to use direct object pronouns



Teaching & learning methods.

Conversation, reading, listening, role play, pair and group work, audio, video, occasional games, authentic materials.

What examinations will I be able to take?

There will be no formal examinations this term.

Assessment pattern:

Continuous assessment based on work done in class and at home to build up a small portfolio which will then be internally and externally verified.

Equipment/information needed to participate in class.

This course will be delivered online via Zoom. You will need to have a webcam and a microphone in order to participate fully. You will also need a current e-mail address so that your Tutor can send you the invitation to join his/her online classroom. You will need to ensure you supply your e-mail address when you enrol so that you are able to participate from the start.

Details of your e-mail address and mobile telephone number are important so you may be notified of course changes or work set if you are absent from class or if the Tutor cannot teach for any reason. As these details are often sent by text message, your mobile number is also very important.

Progression opportunities:

Completion of this course will enable students to join a further Portuguese level 2 year 1 course next term with CALAT, subject to satisfactory enrolment numbers.
