Title
Sing together, Irish songs.
Who is this course for?
This is for anyone with an interest in beginning to participate in group harmony singing and learning about Irish songs.
What will I learn on this course?
We will explore community Irish songs, ballads, and various folk forms. We will try a little Irish language as part of an introduction to Sean Nos style singing but English language will be the main content to allow an accessible experience across the 3 weeks. These group singing classes will offer you the opportunity to develop singing skills and technique, along with the opportunity for some individual and group improvisation. Small amounts of harmony will be incorporated in the traditional styles appropriate to this music in its folk and modern forms.
There will be options for small solo lines and verses but this is by choice and no one has to.
You will learn about how to prepare to sing, how to listen to others while singing harmony, how to articulate and communicate the songs. We will sing mainly unaccompanied.
Your vocal tutor will be Catherine Pestano, who also runs the community arts organisation Creative Croydon.
Progression opportunities:
Further singing classes. Or try another CALAT Creative Arts class or local community choir.
