Who is it suitable for?
This course is for people who would like to work within the adult Care sector but who do not have any previous experience. The course lasts 3 weeks and runs 2 days per week. There is no examination at the end of the course.
The course is free if you are unemployed.
What will I learn?
This course will support you in understanding the skills needed to work with adults. It will help you to understand communication skills, learn key Care vocabulary and develop your interview skills.
How will the course be taught?
The course will be taught by an experienced subject specialist tutor. There will be class discussions and small group work.
You will be encouraged to take notes while in class.

Preparing to Work in Care - Intensive 3 week course

Location: CALAT Thornton Heath Centre
Start Date: Thursday 25th April
End Date: Friday 10th May
Course Duration: 3 weeks (two days per week - Thursday and Friday)
Time: 10 a:m. - 1 p.m.
What related qualifications can you progress to?
Learners who successfully complete the course and attend all sessions, will be offered an interview with a Care employer. (Please note that this does not guarantee a job in Care at the end of the course.)
After the course ends, if you are successful in gaining a job in the Care sector, you may be able to apply for our courses:-
Level 2 Adult Care course, or alternatively
Level 1 Introduction to Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's settings or
Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children's and Young People's Mental Health course, or
Level 3 Understanding Mental Health.
Attendance requirements
You will need to attend punctually and for the duration of the course.

How to apply
You are invited to attend an information and assessment session at our Thornton Heath centre.
At the session you will complete a short English assessment and have a discussion with the course tutor.
When you attend, you will need to bring Photo ID and proof of income/benefits with you.

Unfortunately, we cannot see anyone who has not booked onto the information session in advance.
We are unable to admit children at these sessions.
If successful, you will be offered a place on the course, and receive an offer letter.
