Prior Knowledge

Knowledge of Pattern cutting basics, Numeracy skills.

What will I learn?

By the end of the course depending on your level of experience you should be able to:
To use your own Body block to create your own garment patterns
Have a good understanding of how to manipulate a pattern block
Turn body measurements into a block
Manipulate darts to create different shapes and styles
Know how to use your block to create a dress, skirt and bodice
Understand the 2 different methods of pattern cutting
Recognise Pattern cutting tools and equipment
Understand how to enable a flat piece of paper to fit a 3 dimensional human figure

Subject Contents/Topics to be covered

Using your own measurements to create your own Dress block
Dart manipulation
Using mini dress blocks to demonstrate how it can be use in different ways
Seam allowances
How to turn the block into a Paper pattern
Make your own toilet

Teaching/Learning Methods

This course will be tutor led with step by step demonstration, followed by Learner repeating shown steps
Learners will also be shown samples and given informative handouts

What examinations will I be able to take?

There will be no examination

Assessment Pattern

Your progress and achievement will be recognised throughout the duration of the course.
You will learn to evaluate your understanding and recognise areas for improvement with help from your tutor.
At the end of the course, you and your tutor will discuss and record what you have achieved and what you still need to learn.

Practice what you have learnt in class to ensure you are prepared for the next course.

Equipment Materials to be brought to the First meeting

Pen and Paper for making notes during class
Tape measure, Paper Scissors, 2H pencil, Eraser, Sharpener, 3 different colour fine markers/pens
An A4 file to keep samples and worksheets

Other Notes

You will be asked to complete necessary paperwork in order that CALAT can claim government funding to subsidise the cost of the course.
