Entry Requirements:

Learners need to attend an initial IAG session and undertake an initial assessment of their skills in English, Maths and ICT. Please ensure you book your session online.

Learners need to hold a relevant vocational and/or academic qualification in their own area of specialism at Level 3 or above or have significant experience/expertise in their chosen field.

What will I learn?

The Ascentis Level 3 Award in Education and Training is an introduction to teaching and it is appropriate for teachers, tutors and trainers who may already been working within an FE college, Community Learning and Skills Provider or Independent Learning Provider and have been asked to complete this qualification and for those delivering work based training such as within voluntary, community, private and public organisations.

The course is also aimed at learners who wish to gain a taste of teaching before deciding to pursue a career in teaching.

PLEASE NOTE: This course is NOT suitable for you if you wish to work as a Teaching Assistant in a school.

Subject contents/Topics to be covered:

During the course you will learn/understand/be able to:

Understand the roles and responsibilities in relation to teaching.
Understand and use inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training.
Understand assessment in education and training.
Prepare and deliver a microteaching session.

Teaching/learning methods:

This is a blended course: some lessons will be online and some in the centre. You will be advised which lessons will be in the centre and which will be online once the course starts.

The first lesson will be delivered in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

What examinations will I be able to take?

You will work towards the Ascentis Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

This accreditation is based on work done in class and at home to build up a portfolio of evidence, there are no formal examinations. The Ascentis Awards registration fee has been included in the course fee.

CALAT Examination and Assessment Appeals Procedure:

Learners who wish to appeal against the result of an examination or assessment should within 20 days of being notified, contact their course tutor or the relevant Centre Examinations Officer for advice on the correct appeals procedures.

Assessment pattern:

You will be continuously assessment during the course and you will build up a portfolio of evidence which will then be internally and externally verified.

Additional costs to students:

Any book needed will be advised by the Tutor during the first class. Students are advised not to buy any books before the course starts.

What extra work will I need to do outside the classroom?

At least two/ three hours per week going over work done in class, doing research and reading materials and preparing work for the next lesson.


Equipment/information needed to participate in class:

This course will be delivered in the classroom and online via Zoom. You will need to have a webcam and a microphone in order to participate fully online. You will also need a current e-mail address so that your Tutor can send you the invitation to join his/her online classroom. You will need to ensure you supply your e-mail address when you enrol so that you are able to participate from the start.

A file or folder to put your work in when in class

Details of your e-mail address and mobile telephone number are very important as we may need to call/e-mail you regarding course changes or work set if you are absent from class or if the Tutor cannot teach for any reason and you do not need to attend the class that particular day.

Before you are able to enrol on this course, you will need to book and attend an assessment session.

You will need to create an online account to book your place on the assessment. Click on the 'Enrol' button to book your time slot for the information session for this course and follow the booking / registration instructions.

The assessment sessions for this course will be held at CALAT Croydon Clocktower centre on: :
Tuesday 26 March 2024 between 5:00 and 7:00pm.

Progression opportunities:

Achievement of this level 3 Award will allow learners to progress to either the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
