Everyone Can Learn to Draw


For beginners and refreshers

Prior Knowledge

No Prior Knowledge Needed

What Will I learn?

By the end of the course depending on your level of experience you should be able to:

•Have a wide knowledge of marks and lines which make up a drawing
•Be able to discuss your work and the work of others
•Identify a style of drawing that works for you
•Move onto others courses with confidence

Subject Contents/Topics to be covered

•Mark Making.
•How to observe in order to make better drawings
•Visit a gallery to see and discuss drawings for a follow up lesson
•Identify artists which might influence your drawing skills
•Develop your own style of drawing
•Show and talk about your drawing interests to the class

Teaching/Learning Methods

•Drawing from observation
•Presentations and direction from Tutor
•Demonstration of drawing techniques and mark making

What Examinations Will I be Able to Take?

None required

Assessment Pattern

•Weekly assessment of progress so far and follow up where needed
•Group Discussions and Individual One-One discussion
•Optional presentations of work or alternatively individual presentation to your Tutor
•End of Course WHAT NEXT and where/how to continue drawing

Additional Costs to Students

•Possible travel costs to a Gallery or Museum
•Exhibition visited will be free to the public at the time of our visit
•Art Materials

What Extra Work Do I Need to Do Outside the Classroom?

•Optional homework will be set each week.
•Continue to look at and see as much artwork as is practical for you.

Equipment Materials to be brought to the First Meeting

•Basic drawing materials and sketch books and biros.
•Suggestions will be made throughout the course for drawing materials costs will always be kept to a reasonable amount.

Other Notes

You will be asked to complete necessary paperwork in order that CALAT can claim government funding to subsidise the cost of the course.

From this course you should be able to follow on to other CALAT art courses.
Your Tutor will advise on which courses you may benefit the most from progressing onto.
