What will I learn?
By the end of the course you should be able to:
Thread and use the sewing machine. Sew a collection of sewing samples to take away and use as reference. Evaluate your work and recognise areas for improvement
Subject contents/topics to be covered
The course will include how to thread the sewing machine, seams and neatening, hems, applying zips, gathering, openings and a range of fastenings. Students will work through techniques building a collection of samples to take away.
Large and small group demonstrations, one to one tuition
What examinations will I be able to take?
No exams required
Your progress and achievement will be recognised and recorded in writing throughout. Your tutor will make initial assessments of your abilities in order to help plan your work with you and set you some learning objectives. You will learn to evaluate your work and recognise areas for improvement with help from your tutor. At the end of the course, you and your tutor will discuss and record what you have achieved and what you still need or want to learn.

What extra work do I need to do outside the classroom?
None required but practising between lessons would be beneficial
Equipment Materials to be brought to first meeting
Please try to bring a tape measure, fabric scissors, paper scissors, pins, hand sewing needles, good quality thread, notepaper & pencil. Please contact the college if you are unsure of what to bring.
