Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone who is new to painting or if you wish to refresh existing skills.

What will I learn on this course?

You will learn a range of painting techniques and explore how these can be created using acrylic paints and a variety of painting tools. Throughout the session, your tutor will demonstrate different methods, such as colour mixing, brush control, layering, blending, texture creation, and mark-making, explaining how each technique can be used to achieve different visual effects.

You will then can practise these techniques through a series of practical exercises, developing your confidence and control when working with acrylic media. As your skills progress, you will apply the techniques you have learned to create a finished painting of your own choice, allowing you to experiment creatively while developing your artistic style. Your tutor will provide guidance and individual feedback throughout the session to support your learning and encourage creative exploration.

Progression opportunities:

This taster session is part of my course: Painting with water mixable media (Thursday: 3.30pm- 5.30pm) & Exploring Mixed- Media (Saturday 10.00am- 12.30pm) at CALAT Croydon Clocktower & many other creative arts courses.

Course entry requirements:

For Creative Arts course learners must be able to work independently.

Course location / delivery method:

In Centre; CALAT, Croydon Clocktower: 10.00am- 12.00pm and 1.00pm-3.00pm.

Additional Information (equipment etc.):

Please bring with you an A3 watercolour pad, brushes, acrylic paint, sponge & masking tape. All additional media will be supplied by the tutor.

Additional Costs to Students:

Learners are expected to provide their own materials and tools where appropriate for classes. Please do not buy any expensive equipment in advance of the course apart from any essential equipment required for the first lesson which is detailed below. Tutors will give advice on the course about how and where equipment can be purchased.

During this 4-hour taster session, you will explore and practise a range of painting techniques demonstrated by your tutor during the morning session.
In the afternoon, you will choose one of these techniques to develop further by creating a painting of your choice. Your tutor will provide guidance and support throughout the session, helping you to build confidence and develop your practical painting skills.
