Portuguese Beginners Entry Level - Part 1

This course is suitable for complete beginners.

Level:

Complete beginners.

Prior knowledge:

Little or no knowledge of Portuguese. However, students should have a good standard of spoken and written English and be able to work independently.

What will I learn?

To listen to and identify information from short extracts in the target language.
To make simple requests and provide very basic information.
To write single words and simple, short phrases.

Subject contents/Topics to be covered:

Greetings
Introductions
The Alphabet
Numbers from 1-100
Giving basic personal details
The family

Teaching/learning methods:

Online delivery through conversation, reading, listening, role play, pair and group work, audio, video, occasional games, authentic materials.

What examinations will I be able to take?

There will be no formal examinations during this course.

Assessment pattern:

Continuous assessment by the Tutor to update you on your progress

Additional costs to students:

Text book: To be advised by the Tutor during the first class. Students are advised not to buy any text books before the course starts.

What extra work will I need to do outside the classroom?

Approximately one hour per week going over work done in class, doing simple exercises and learning vocabulary.

Equipment/information needed to participate in class

This course will be delivered online via Zoom. You will need to have a webcam and a microphone in order to participate fully. You will also need a current e-mail address so that your Tutor can send you the invitation to join his/her online classroom. You will need to ensure you supply your e-mail address when you enrol so that you are able to participate from the start.

Details of your e-mail address and mobile telephone number are important so you may be notified of course changes or work set if you are absent from class or if the Tutor cannot teach for any reason.

Progression opportunities:

Completion of this course will enable students to join a further beginners course in the spring term.
