Prior knowledge:

To join this Spanish Stage 6 course you should have studied Spanish for 4 or 5 years. You should be able to cope reasonably well in discussions with a native speaker, using a variety of tenses.

What will I learn?

You will continue to learn how to converse, understand, and write in Spanish with more confidence and fluency. You will further improve your skills in presenting an argument using topical materials from Spanish speaking countries and will consolidate your knowledge of Spanish grammar.

Subject contents/Topics to be covered over the three terms of the academic year:

The course will be based on a text book and on material provided by the tutor. Topics to be covered will be negotiated with the group. Aspects of Spanish grammar will be explained and practised as an integral part of the course.

The use of different tenses will be practised to increase confidence and fluency.

Teaching/learning methods:

First learners will be introduced to a particular topic through simple discussion to revise existing grammar structures and vocabulary. Then extensive use will be made of audio/visual and authentic materials to provide stimulus for further discussion, comprehension and the opportunity to extend knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.

What examinations will I be able to take?

There will be no formal examinations this term.

Assessment pattern:

Continuous assessment by the Tutor to update you on your progress.

Additional costs to students:

Any book needed will be advised by the Tutor during the first class. Students are advised not to buy any books before the course starts.

What extra work will I need to do outside the classroom?

One or two hours per week going over work done in class, revising the different tenses, reading and preparing work for the next lesson.

This course will be delivered in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

Progression opportunities:

Completion of this course will enable students to join a further Spanish Upper Intermediate/Lower advanced course next tem with CALAT, subject to satisfactory enrolment numbers.
