NCFE CACHE - L1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools

What will I learn?

The course aims to help you:

Find out about and prepare for the demands of the level 2 teaching assistant course

Prepare to work in schools as a member of the support staff team

Develop your knowledge of how to support teaching and learning in schools



Subject contents / topics to be covered

During the course you will be exploring the following areas:

Understand schools as organisations

Understand how to keep children and young people healthy, safe and well

Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults

Assessment Method

Portfolio of evidence to include:

Assignments, reports, presentations

Personal action plan for progression

Personal Learning Plan (PLP)

Self/peer assessment

Progression opportunities

On successful completion of this Level 1 Award, you can progress to:-

- Level 2 Award on Support Work in Schools - providing you have achieved, or are working at, Level 1 in your writing.

- Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children & Young People's Mental Health

- Level 2 Early Years Diploma

Joining instructions


You are invited to attend an information and assessment session. At the session you will complete a short English assessment and have a discussion with the course tutor.

If successful and you are offered a place on a course, you will be given instructions on how to enrol online or in person at any one of the CALAT centres.

Entry requirements

A minimum of entry 3 English / literacy. If you wish to progress further you will be required to attend additional English / literacy classes to support your learning.

You will be asked to complete all paperwork necessary for CALAT to claim government funding which subsidises the cost of the course.

Equipment required

Access to a computer, paper, printer, A4 lever arch folder and dividers, pen and notebook / writing paper and USB memory stick.

Students are advised NOT to buy any books until recommended by the course tutor.
