The skills developed by studying this qualification will develop an understanding of the role of the bookkeeper, including the need to produce timely and accurate work and follow ethical principles. Students will learn how to identify assets, liabilities, income, expenses, capital profit and loss, and the differences between trading for cash or trading on credit. The skills developed will give students a solid base from which to seek employment with greater confidence or enable them to progress to the next level of learning. A student completing this qualification will develop skills in double-entry bookkeeping and will understand how to use journals, control accounts and a trial balance. This is a Level 1 introductory qualification in AAT.

You will learn basic accounting techniques and principles, an understanding of the business environment and how to prepare for the world of work.

Civil Service Application Course

This is a short course for anyone interested in applying for work within the Civil Service such as:
DWP - Job Centre
Home Office
HMRC

During this cover each individual will cover:
Skills analysis
Production of CVs and personal statements
Interview preparation
Mock Interviews

The course will also include input from an officer in the Civil Service about applying for a vacancy, careers and conditions.

There is no entry requirements although a reasonable level of English & Maths is needed.

We are currently running these courses every fortnight, and there will be a short Pre-Assessment session on Thursdays at 10am you will need to attend before you can join a course.

The course runs on a Wednesday morning to fit around the school run.

City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Care

Funding is available for these courses if you meet the eligibility criteria which means that you may not need to pay the course fees. This can be discussed with you at your interview as individual circumstances may differ. You will need to bring the following documents with you on the day.

This qualification is an excellent opportunity for you to progress your career. To be accepted on to the course you must attend an English assessment and a separate interview session. These sessions will be by appointment only at our CALAT centre in Thornton Heath and last around 1 hour.

Learners must complete a work placement, as an employee, as part of their course. However, the placement must be within the London Borough of Croydon, as our assessors cannot carry out observations of work practice outside of Croydon.

City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care

This course is for carers or support workers who are currently working within the adult health and social care sector and want to gain this nationally recognised qualification. You will develop and extend your practice and learn about the legislation that underpins the health and social care sector.

The course requires you to have a minimum of 3 months experience of working in the adult health and social care setting and you should be working approximately 10 hours per week.

To be accepted on to the course you must attend an information session, which will consist of an English assessment and interview session and enrolment. These information sessions will be held at our CALAT centre at Strand House, Zion Road.

There is a minimum age to enrol onto this course. You must be 19 years of age or above as of 31.8.24

Come and learn the easy way with CALAT’s digital skills department and you will be online in no time! All courses will take place in CALAT digital skills suites where you will have the support of a qualified digital skills trainer to support you through your learning.

CALAT digital skills department offers a range of courses to help develop your digital skills whether you’re looking to gain skills for employment, want to be able to access the internet to search for information or send an email, to working with advanced Microsoft Office skills at level 2.

Most digital skills courses CALAT offers are OCN accredited and recognised by employers. If you are in receipt of qualifying benefits courses are free.

OCN Essential Digital Skills qualifications offered at entry level and level 1 – free to all learners who do not have a qualification in digital skills including those in employment. Interactive online resources are used to deliver this qualification in the areas of; Communicating, Handling information and content, Online transacting skills, problem solving using digital skills and being safe and legal online.

All learners need to book an appointment to attend an information session before enrolling on a course. This will include a diagnostic assessment to support your enrolment and correct choice of course. Please note you will need English skills that are at a level below your digital skills course.

The course is suitable for people who are interested in working within the Care or Early Years sector and who don't have an existing qualification in either of these areas.

NCFECACHE L2 Certificate Introducton in Caring for Children and Young People

Level 2 Certificate in Introducing Caring for Children and Young People

This knowledge based course provides learners with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of Earal Years related topics, leading to either L3 Early Years Educator or L2 Diploma in Caring for Children and Young People or Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner.

To be considered for this course you will need to evidence that you have an existing L1 Award/Diploma /Certificate in a childcare and you must attend an information session, which will consist of an English assessment and interview session and enrolment.

There is a minimum age to enrol on this course. You must be 19 years of age or above as of 31.8.24.

These courses will take place in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower.

To join either of these Advanced classes, you should have studied French for around 5 years and have probably obtained a good grade at GCSE. You should be able to cope reasonably well in discussions with a native speaker, employing a range of tenses.
You will continue to learn how to converse, understand, and write in French with more confidence. You will further improve your skills in presenting an argument using topical materials from French speaking countries and will consolidate your knowledge of French grammar.

This course will be delivered online via Zoom.

This course assumes you have studied German for around 5 years. You are probably fairly confident using the present, future and past tenses but still need practice to increase confidence and fluency. During this course, you will work to increase your knowledge of all the tenses and will increase your general vocabulary.

Italian Intermediate conversation

This course will be held in the classroom at Croydon Clocktower although there will be the
option to participate online if you prefer.

To join this Intermediate level (level 1/level 2)conversation class, you should have studied Italian for at least two years and be able to hold a simple conversation with a native Italian speaker, ask questions about a number of different topics (food, travel), use past tenses and the future tense.

The course will give you the opportunity to gain confidence and improve your fluency when speaking. You will gain confidence using a variety of tenses which will improve your conversational skills and you will begin to use and understand more complex language.

Languages - Portuguese Beginners Entry Level - Part 2

This continuing beginner’s course follows on from last term’s Introduction to Portuguese course and assumes you have a small amount of knowledge of Portuguese.
